UPDATE:  We have learned that Whiz-Bang! is not compatible with Windows 7 or Vista.  It is now on the list of projects for our website guys to work on.. but that is already a rather long list.  It could easily be 2012 before we have a new updated version of Whiz-Bang.

In the meantime, we will continue to send out notifications via our website email announcements.  You may also have noticed that we have started to take the old catalog down on Thursday or Friday before a new one opens, replacing it on the home page with a wrapped-up cover of the new catalog and displaying the opening time countdown clock below that.  At that time a news article about the new catalog is posted also.  So, when you also remember that our catalogs generally open on a Monday (unless there is a holiday on Monday), it is pretty easy to stay up to date on when the new one is coming out.

As soon as a new version of Whiz-Bang! is available, we will make an announcement and have it on the website as a free download.

-----------

Have you ever missed an item here because you had no idea that a new catalog was out until several days after it opened?
Were you counting on an email notification that just never arrived?
That is very frustrating... but now there is an answer:

What?
Whiz-Bang! is a small program that you can download for free.  The program works with computers running Microsoft Windows XP Home or XP Pro operating systems.  It sits in your computer system tray and occasionally checks to see if there are any new update messages from AGM.  When a new catalog is going to post soon, you will see a window like this one on your computer desktop:

You can click on the link in the message if you want to read more about the upcoming catalog, or just write down the date and time, and click the button in the upper right corner to close the message window.

Why?
Over the last year we have been hearing from more and more customers who tell us "Hey - I never got the email notice!"  (Actually, that is the nice censored version of what they have been telling us...)  We discovered that because we are sending out so many emails announcing the new catalog that a lot of the internet service providers have tagged our notification emails as ’SPAM’, and are zapping them before the user ever gets to see the note.  We have tried all kinds of things to prevent this from happening, but in the end we realized that it is just pretty much out of our control.  This had become a major customer satisfaction problem, though, so we did not give up on trying to find a solution.  And that... is how Whiz-Bang! was born.

How?
Whiz-Bang! is a communication link directly between your computer and the AGM website, similar to Microsoft’s automatic updates or Google’s Gmail notifier.  The closest inspiration for this idea was "DING" from Southwest Airlines.  These programs sit idle on your computer most of the time, and every once in a while check with the website to see if there is a new update.  Since it has nothing to do with email, there is no way that a junk mail filter can prevent you from being right at the head of the line when the new catalog opens!

Requirements:
Whiz-Bang! works on Windows machines running XP Home or XP Pro operating systems with a connection to the internet.
